Abstract: Hydraulic fracturing simulation of reservoirs is a complex fluid-solid-damage coupling process.Owing to the intrinsic advantages of the phase-field method in multiphysics simulation,it has been widely applied to hydraulic fracturing simulation.Over more than a decade of development, numerous phase-field models have been developed for hydraulic fracturing simulation, including brittle-fracture phase-field models based on linear elastic fracture mechanics,ductile-fracture phase-field models considering the post-peak plastic stage,phase-field models considering the viscoelastic behavior of rocks, and quasi-brittle-fracture phase-field models assuming the presence of a cohesive zone at the fracture tip. These models cover most types of rock fracture, including brittle fracture, ductile fracture, viscoelastic fracture, and quasi-brittle fracture. To further promote the development and advancement of the phase-field method in hydraulic fracturing simulation, especially technical progress in fracture-type identification, multiphysics coupling, and innovations in governing equations for fluid flow and rock deformation, this paper summarizes the progress of phase-field models in hydraulic fracturing and indicates future development directions for phase-field models in hydraulic fracturing simulation. This study can promote the wider application of phase-field models in hydraulic fracturing simulation and provide technical ideas for overcoming the limitations of existing models.
